Today, Thursday started as usual at 07:00 with the morning Eucharist. Otherwise I stayed at the Diocese Office lodging all day and tried to catch up on some outstanding Posting. Just finished Day 13.
As I try to catch up, I notice that as I get father behind, the more I must try to reconstruct the day. This is in addition to researching and cross referencing what I’m saying and places I have been to make sure I’m not off the mark on the facts! This is especially true on the days I visit a church – I also try to do some research in the Kobe Diocese 140th Anniversary Annal Book, as well as the internet to add more interesting facts about the visit to that location.
Today I practiced my flute some, did my laundry and tried to clear up the refrigerator of perishables since after my return on Monday, I have less than a day before I go on a two week visit to my next destination – Kyoto.
Then after packing, at 7:00 PM I left for Izumi-Sano in Osaka near the Kansai International Airport. My flight to Okinawa tomorrow is at 7:55 am and I doubt I’d be able to get there from Kobe in the morning on time, so I booked a lodging near the Airport. Everyone was asking why I booked a trip from such a faraway airport? Well, in the U.S. it’s always far cheaper to fly out of a major airport rather than small local airport. I’ve tried local airport before, but it’s costlier, there’s too many problems with weather related delays and cancellations, and it’s just not convenient.
It just didn’t dawn on me that… things are different in Japan. In Japan pricing is mostly by the distance and not by local or major airport. There are many direct flights from local airport to local airport, so you don’t necessarily have to fly to a hub first. There is an airport right in Kobe only 40 minutes away that flew directly to Naha, and I had to book out of an airport an hour and a half away, at 7:55 in the morning! Crazy when you don’t know how things work.
