On June 4th, after the 7:00 am Morning Eucharist, Deacon Miyata asked me if I would do the reading for the 10:30 am Service for those members of the congregation who died in the month of June. I was glad to be asked and accepted the task immediately. It was the first time the alb I brought from the US was used.
The two readings were: Isaiah 25: 8-9 and I Corinthians 15: 20-26. I practiced to make sure I knew all of the characters and how to pronounce them. The readings went well. They told me that my Japanese was more than adequate. I felt accepted.
The rest of the day was spent figuring out how to operate the washing machine. I was afraid of having too much laundry to wash. It was a challenge to figure out where to put in the detergent.

How much detergent to put in was another guessing work trying to convert things from metric grams to Ounces! Never mind – just do as the Romans!

The end result was – a lot of clothes to hang dry on every available racks and hangars as there is no dryer here. I’m glad I didn’t wait another day and add more clothes to wash. From now on, every couple of days! No more than three days.
